Rainbow Alliance and RCA presents Sex Week

The Rainbow Alliance and RCA will hold Sex Week to open the discussion on a taboo topic. During the week of April 30th, they will hold different events focused on sex.

This is the first Sex Week, but the RCA would like to make it an annual event. The Rainbow Alliance and RCA will kick off Sex Week with an HIV/STI presentation and testing.

According to Brandi Sowers, Vice President of the Rainbow Alliance, Ben Adams from the Aids Resource Center (ARC) will give a presentation. He will talk about different types of STI’s and give advice on ways to stay healthy. Adams will also give a pre and post test to see what people learned and what they already knew.

After the presentation there will be an HIV testing. The test is a simple mouth swab and is completely painless.

“It’s important for people to recognize that everyone is at risk and as college students you need to take precautions in order to guarantee your safety and health,” said Sowers.

Sowers suggests students be honest with their partners in order to prevent the spread of diseases. Sowers also said it is important to use a condom. The Rainbow Alliance will pass out condoms during Sex Week.

The presentation and testing is free and open for all. It will take place on Monday, April 30 from 2 to 5 p.m. in 103 and 105 Student Union.

On Tuesday, May 1, they will hold a Sex Social. There will be games, food and a DJ. It will take place in the Student Union Atrium from 7 to 9 p.m.

On Wednesday, May 2, they will have a speaker who will talk about kinks and fetishes. The speaker will speak at the interactive meeting in E157 from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

On Thursday, May 3, they will hold a Who’s Your Daddy game show in the Student Union Atrium from 7:30 to 9 p.m.

The grand finale will be the 9th annual Drag Show in the Apollo Room from 8 to 11 p.m. on Friday, May 4. The Drag Show will have students dressed in drag as well as a comedy routine by Wright State professor, Michelle Metzner. All tips and proceeds for the Drag Show will go to the ARC.

According to Somers, RCA and the Rainbow Alliance decided to hold Sex Week because sex is a topic that usually gets pushed under the table.

“We’re all adults here and we need to be responsible and talk about sensitive subjects,” Somers said.
