Student Governments holds 2012-2013 position elections

“It’s Student Government. It all comes down to what the students really want. We [the elected representatives for Student Government] serve as a gateway between the student body and the higher administration that controls the policies enacted in or around campus.” - Adam Verdecchia As for the upcoming year, Student Government’s agenda remains moderately tentative. However, the pronounced tone of aplomb and excitement in the voices of Adam Verdecchia (Director of Public Relations for SG) and Jonathan Maze (Chief Justice for SG) was reassuring that Wright State has a lot in store for next year. In fact, Verdecchia and Maze took time out of their busy days to sit down with The Guardian and discuss some of the logistics behind the upcoming election, the future ambitions of the Student Government, as well as the overall function of this vital organization. On the subject of elections: For the convenience of students wanting to take part in the democratic process at Wright State, Student Government will be utilizing the internet accordingly. Verdecchia Candidates running for a Student Government office will be posting their platforms online soon, along with their future aspirations for Wright State policy and what they hope to achieve, if elected. According to Jonathan Maze, there are still a magnitude of positions open. Applications for cabinet spots are currently being accepted by Student Government. Students can also apply for positions such as: Chief of Staff, Chief Justice, Director of Internal Affairs, Director of Campus Culture, Director of Academic Affairs, Director of International Affairs, Director of Public Relations, Director of Web Communication, and Director of Student Affairs. The expected diversity of the tickets comes from the harmonious medley of both previously elected Student Government officials who are running again -- in hopes of continuing their own personal pursuit of what they feel is best for the student body at Wright State -- and new candidates who seek to bring a breath of fresh progressiveness to campus. The current members of Student Government are greatly encouraging of every student that seeks to get involved with Wright State’s median between the administration and the student body. “If anyone is interested in getting involved or even applying for a position on the Student Government, please get in contact with Adam or I,” said Maze. “It’s a great way to learn about Wright State, to learn about yourself, to give back to the community and to establish some networking. I encourage anyone, regardless of your year or major, to take a chance with Student Government and to get involved.”
