“2016: Obama’s America”: A negative portrayal of Obama

Dinesh D’Sousa’s controversial film “2016: Obama’s America” has received both praise and criticism for its negative portrait of the current president and his “hidden agenda.” The film was released in July and has grossed over $33.3 million, making it the fourth most successful domestic documentary. D’Sousa’s recent film is based on his 2011 book “The Roots of Obama’s Rage,” and presents the theory that Obama’s decisions and morals revolve around those that his father possessed, and that he ultimately wants to “ downsize America.” Much of the film is centered on Obama’s life story, told in his 1995 memoir “Dreams from My Father.” D’Sousa travels to Hawaii, Indonesia and Kenya in an effort to trace Obama’s roots. Obama’s half-brother, George, is interviewed in the film, which presents an unflattering portrait of the president. D’Sousa claims that Obama has an anti-American agenda. “I think he [Obama] would like to see America have a smaller economy, use less energy, he would like to see money redistributed away from America and toward the rest of the world,” D’Sousa said in an interview with ABC. The film also claimed that by 2016 the US economy will collapse, and that Iran would be in complete possession of nuclear weapons. The movie not only claims that these events will occur, but that they are a part of Obama’s plan. “2016: Obama’s America” is still showing in major theaters.
