The Rainbow Alliance organized their own homecoming activities for the GLBTQA community during homecoming week.
Coming Out Week, scheduled from Oct. 8 to 13, will be an opportunity for all students, regardless of their sexuality, to show support for the GLBTQA community. Coming Out Week’s activities aim to show support for students who have and have not come out about their sexuality.
Rainbow Alliance President Andrea Stojsavljevic said the open and welcoming environment of Coming Out Week will develop a sense of support in the WSU community “in knowing when you do come out as whatever sexual orientation or gender identity, that there are people who support you and will be there for you.”
Along with fostering support, Coming Out Week will have many events for students. Monday and Wednesday from noon to 3 p.m., the Coming Out Door Tabling will allow students to write messages of inspiration and support for fellow GLBTQA students. On Wednesday night, a magician will attend to perform magic tricks.
In the Student Union Atrium on Tuesday, a De-stress program will be available from noon to 4 p.m. Students will be able to relax with massages, yoga and arts and crafts as part of homecoming week.
On Thursday from noon to 3 p.m., the Rainbow Alliance will host a Pride Rally to recognize the accomplishments in the GLBQTA community and how they continue to make strides forward. Organizations and speakers from WSU and the Dayton area will be there to provide information about their organizations and to show support.
On Friday, the Rainbow Alliance will take part in the Chili Cook-Off and attend the soccer game. The week will conclude on Saturday with a GLBTQA Alumni reception at 7 p.m.
