CSA offers opportunities for commuters

The Commuter Student Association (CSA) provides commuters with outlets to connect to others on campus.

The Commuter Student Association hosts events including: Finals Survival, where students can get a free Panera Bread breakfast on the Monday of finals from 9-11 a.m. in addition to dinner on Tuesday from 4-6 p.m.  On Feb. 13, CSA will host the spring commuter fair in the Student Union Atrium, where representatives from the nearby apartment complexes will provide information to students about their respective housing plans.  Last year, CSA teamed up with the Student Automotive Association for a car show and hosted a Spring Cleaning Sale.

This year, Kyle Powell, the new Student Government Commuter Senator and CSA President, is looking forward to involving CSA in more fundraising activities, such as a rubber duck race in the spring and possibly a drive-in movie in Lot 4.  Fundraiser money goes to scholarships for commuters.  For the 2013-2014 academic year, there will be two scholarships for $250.  However, Powell is hoping to increase the number of scholarships and possibly make them larger.

“CSA makes students more aware of what’s going on in the university,” Powell said.

Students can learn more about the organization by visiting orgsync.com, where they can register to join CSA and receive updates.  CSA also has a Twitter (WSU Commuters) and random giveaways.

CSA is meant to unite the students of commuter-heavy Wright State. Although CSA does not host public meetings, students are encouraged to register on orgsync.com and get on the mailing list for organization updates on campus.

“You can come to class and leave, and don’t really grasp the college experience,” Powell said.

CSA offers a link to the college life specifically for those students who live off-campus.
