“America’s Got Talent” is looking for contestants in Columbus Ohio. This is reality series that features singers, dancers, magicians, comedians, and other performers. The unique quality of this show is there are no restrictions on age or talent. The prize of winning this competition is one million dollars and possibly a show in Las Vegas.
“This is a talent competition. It’s the only show where there are no restrictions,” Jason Raff, Executive Producer, said. “You can sing, dance or do something weird or interesting and you might get chosen.”
America’s Got Talent started in the summer of 2006 and was created by Simon Cowell, former judge on “American Idol.” The selection process starts with the producer auditions in various cities across America. The acts that make it through the selection process then will be judged in front of three celebrity judges and will have a chance of being on TV. Last year, judges included Piers Morgan, Howie Mandel and Sharon Osborne.
“This year we are traveling to more places and different places to reach a wider range of contestants for the show,” Raff said. “For example, this is our first time coming to Columbus; we are excited about what we will find.”
The show will visit 14 cities.
“It’s very exhausting traveling around the country,” Raff said. “But it’s also a great chance to meet diverse people. I enjoy watching people who have worked hard and now they are seeing their life changed; it makes me feel good. This is a chance to showcase your talent to 22 million people, it’s vital.”
According to Raff this is a great experience for college students as well.
“For college kids, there are so many extra-curricular groups on campus that can show their talents and ideas. Some students may be studying biology but deep down have a passion for singing; this is your chance to let people see that talent.”
Raff as seen a lot of unusual talent come through his office, such as a lady who grew her finger nails for 24 years.
“If you think it’s a talent, you’re special, you’ve got something to show the world, then come on down and audition. We enjoy that,” Raff said.
The show will be in Columbus Jan. 19 and 20, at 400 North High Street. Registration opens from approximately 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information visit www.americasgottalentauditions.com.
