The city of Fairborn has plans to renovate Colonel Glenn Highway as early as 2013 in order to relieve the high amount of traffic congestion from servicing both WSU and WPAFB, especially during morning and evening rush hour. A reported 22,000 automobiles utilize Col Glenn Hwy every day, which makes the renovation of the 1.1 mile stretch of road a priority over other overburdened streets in the area. The project is expected to cost about $1,470,000 and falls under Design and Construction expenses in the city’s budget, according to Fairborn’s 2013-2017 Capital Improvements Projects Summary. The city has applied to the OH Public Works Commission for a $400,000 grant to alleviate some of the expense to taxpayers and to avoid draining the street levy fund, which provides funding for as many as 40 roads annually. While some construction has been done over the past few years, this project will repair Col. Glen Hwy. in its entirety, including the installation of sidewalks and restoring deteriorated curbs and concrete.
