Dining services receives suggestions from students

With its food services contract drawing to a close, Wright State is asking students, “What do YOU want from dining services?” Answers vary, from vague suggestions like “more options” to requests for “more fresh fruit and veggie choices at the Union Market.” Multiple students have suggested that WSU offer a choice of meal plans to students who live in on-campus residence halls and are required to buy the meal plan at the current price of $1,463 per semester. Residence hall students with Dining Dollar plans have also requested a weekly allowance system for Dining Dollars so that they can’t run out before the semester is over. Another common idea is for more off-campus restaurants—like Chipotle—to accept Dining Dollars. However, WSU and Sodexo (the current dining services provider) have little control over which establishments provide Dining Dollars service—Wright State receives a portion of every Dining Dollar spent, so many businesses believe they will face a significant drop in profit if they begin to accept Dining Dollars. They could add a “Dining Dollar tax” to make up the difference, but students would be less likely to purchase food there. Perhaps the most popular plea is for Union Market and The Hangar to stay open later than 7 p.m. That way, students can enjoy more variety in the evenings and on weekends.
