Psychology club offers resources for the future

For those majoring in psychology, or interested in the subject, it would be beneficial to check out the Psychology Club. Their mission statement is to encourage academic excellence through association with faculty and fellow students with an interest in psychology. The meeting times vary but are usually twice a month, held on the third floor of Fawcett Hall.

“The best part of being a member of this organization is the exposure to faculty in the department,” Psychology Club president Leah Miller said. “And the ability to learn more about opportunities in research, practicums, graduate schools, internships and jobs. As well as the ability to travel to an annual conference in Chicago to present research.”

The Psychology Club started in the 1990’s at Wright State and continues to grow and become more active on campus, in the community and the field of psychology. According to Miller, she’d like to see it continue to gain members and receive more feedback from the students. The organization is also focusing on becoming more creative with recruitment as well as fundraising opportunities to send members to the conference in Chicago.

“I feel as though many psychology majors and minors are very involved in our organization and have gained something from their membership in the club, whether it be a resume builder, presentation experience, grad school application help and so much more,” Miller said. “Without this club, these students may never receive this valuable information.”

Anyone can join the Psychology Club. If interested stop by the main office in 335 Fawcett or 349 Fawcett (Psychology Club office) to pick up an application and return it with a $25 one-time membership fee. An agenda will be sent out the first week of classes as well as posted on the Psychology Club Facebook page and on the calendar outside the Psychology Club office.

“Students who have an interest at all in meeting other students and faculty associated with the field of psychology at our school should join. We have guest speakers come to our meeting and discuss the varying fields of psychology, so there is likely something for everyone.”
