Wright State Student Government Vice President Marc Tshimanyika was found to have violated his probation and sentenced to an additional 50 days in jail this morning in Fairborn Municipal Court.
With the conviction Tshimanyika will be terminated from his position by Tuesday, January 15 however his attorney stated Tshimanyika expressed wishes to formally resign before then.
Tshimanyika’s attorney told the court the reasoning for Tshimanyika’s absence from his two probation meetings in 2012 was Tshimanyika became “overwhelmed with school and work.”
Tshimanyika tearfully apologized to the court and expressed his wishes to be ordered community service or electronic home monitoring and would “be willing to do anything to continue his education.”
Tshimanyika called his actions “completely reckless” and claimed he “didn’t prioritize” but would “take full responsibility for what I did.”
Judge Beth Root expressed her displeasure with Tshimanyika’s actions telling the defendant of his “history of not doing what is required of you.”
Tshimanyika was sentenced to 60 days in jail but is being given credit for 10 days he has already served.
Student Government is expected to release an official statement regarding the situation later today.
The Guardian will continue to update this story once more information becomes available.
