Musician and WSU junior Petey Mosbarger will audition for “America’s Got Talent” on Jan. 19 in Columbus. Although the show is having an open casting call, producers personally called Mosbarger to audition.
“I’m very excited about this experience and opportunity,” Mosbarger said. “I sent a video from my YouTube Channel of me singing and playing my guitar. I performed live at W.OW.’s and had no idea someone was recording me.”
According to Mosbarger he’s been interested and singing since he was 10 years old. He performed for the first time in his third grade talent show and since then, he’s really enjoyed it. Currently he is majoring in Mass Communications. In the next couple of years Mosbarger wants to record music but also plans to stay in school.
This is the first time the show is coming to Ohio. “America’s Got Talent” will have three additional open casting calls in New York, Chicago and New Orleans. To audition contestants must fill out paperwork and either show up at the casting call or submit a video. Once contestants audition, producers will decide if they should be sent to the next round. From that point, contestants will be able to debut their talent in front of a panel of celebrity judges and a live audience, the show is taped and later viewed on TV.
“I’m not sure how I’d fit this all into my school schedule,” Mosbarger said. “But I plan to take it one step at a time. I think it’s important for students who also have a talent to believe in themselves, keep themselves grounded and stay on their toes, because you never know when you’ll have an opportunity like this one.”
