Students interested in joining a laidback environment should consider joining the Anime Club.
According to Anime Club President Matthew Hamberg, anime is “animations geared towards people who are in their late-teens to early twenties. The style of the show is more colorful and detailed than most American animated shows that people are used to.”
Anime is not only a popular type of TV series with sub genres like romance and action, but a common style of drawing as well.
Hamberg described the series as “one big story with issues that everyone can relate with. The style of show may be Japanese style, but the characters can be universally enjoyable.”
The club has been to Ohayocon, a convention about Anime and the Japanese culture.
“We follow the culture of Japan [in the club],” former Anime Club President Matthew Drieling said.
Drieling, who is currently working towards his Masters degree, continues to hang out with the friends he has made from being in the club.
“We’re pretty much a group of friends who enjoy watching Anime,” Drieling said.
“We can have 15 to 30 people each week. We mostly watch Anime and enjoy talking about it. Occasionally people will bring in food,” Hamberg said.
“There’s no other club on campus that includes Anime. Even if you don’t watch Anime you should come,” Hamberg said. He recommends watching the “Toradora” and “Clannad” episodes in the Anime series.
