WSU offers unique resource for students with disabilities

Angela Bonza, the lead career advisor for WrightChoice, Inc. is also contracted to fill a vocational roll in ODS. She assists students with physical disabilities, learning disabilities, ADD/ADHD, psychological disabilities, and Asperger’s in addition to alumni students with disabilities.

“WSU is unique in having someone in my role, most universities have ODS and career services separated. Career services does a great job in teaching skills, but students with disabilities have unique additional needs that they often do not have the training to handle. Likewise, disability services hastraining in disability needs, but not often vocational needs," she said.

One of Bonza’s roles is professional development, such as helping students with their resumes, cover letters, and interviewing as well as accommodations, SSI/SSDI, Medicaid and transportation. In addition to those resources she also teaches ODS student tools they need for possible job opportunities.

Office of Disability Services recently added a professional development coach to the department. This coach will devote additional time for students with disabilities who need extra help on tasks such as resume writing. The new career coach will add to other resources and opportunities for students with disabilities.
