The Wright State Office of the Bursar will be moving all payments and transactions exclusively online on July 1, according to a campus announcement from RaiderConnect.
The move to online only was made to accommodate the current RaiderConnect goal of creating a more efficient and simple system for students known as a “one stop,” according to University Bursar and Director of Treasury Services Steven Sherbet.
“We’re looking at how to do business in the future,” Sherbet said. “It’s much more convenient.”
All windows of operation for the Bursar will be shutdown, and the operation will be consolidated with several others, according to Sherbet.
“It minimizes runaround,” Sherbet said.
WSU Senior Vinicius Vargas said that the new process would have both positives and negatives.
“It will make things more efficient,” said Vargas. “But it might hurt some students that don’t have a debit card or a credit card.”
Sherbet said that students without means of electronic finance could either use an electronic check or set up a cashier’s check with the Student Union branch of Wright-Patt Credit Union.
WSU Junior Alexandra Simmons said that the change would complicate things for independent students struggling with the financial process.
“I usually run into some problems with the process here and there,” Simmons said. “If you can physically go to a person, they will help you out. It makes it a little bit easier on those that are struggling.”
Sherbet said that an “enrollment services” team that would be available to consult students that are having trouble with finances, though they would be cross trained in several areas, not exclusively finance.
“An advisor will be there to help students with transactions,” Sherbet said. “They are there to service the entire population.”
