Beavercreek art show seeking Wright State artists

Beavercreek’s Art in the Park, an event in which artists showcase their original pieces to the public, is seeking artists from Wright State to participate.

The event is free to the public. It will be held in Beavercreek at Dominick Lofino Park on August 3 from noon to 5p.m. However, artists interested in setting up a display will be expected to arrive at 11a.m.

The event is the brainchild of 12-year-old Girl Scout Evelyn Long, who said she noted a lacking in the artistic community of Beavercreek.

“I didn’t think there was very much art in Beavercreek, so I really wanted to bring the art community to Beavercreek,” Long said.

Long was able to gather enough support to make the event happen. She relates her success to shared thoughts and goals.

“There were a lot of people that think the same way as I do. They want to make the areas around Dayton more artistic,” Long said.

The event will consist of an art walk, where artists will set up displays though out the park and around the pond so the public can view the artwork and ask artists specific questions about their pieces.

A kid’s area will also be available, which will include face painting and interactive community art projects.

The invitation is open to any WSU artists that wish to participate. Long believes that the event could be beneficial for student artists.

“It’s a lot of publicity for their work and it will really get their name out there,” Long said.

There is no registration required for artists that wish to participate, however, artists are expected to bring their own displays to the event.
