WSU student Ryan Rushing appointed to Board of Trustees

Sophomore Ryan Rushing was appointed Student Trustee on the WSU Board of Trustees last Wednesday. He will be the first undergraduate to serve on the board in 6 years, according to Rushing.

The former SG senator said he received a call from Ohio Governor John Kasich appointing him to the position.

“I’m very honored,” Rushing said. “[The trustees] are the key advocates for policy throughout the university on every single issue that students face.”

Rushing served as University College Senator last year, but was not elected back into Student Government after running for vice president. He also served as the president of the University College Student Advisory Council.

Rushing said that he looks forward to advocating for students once again.

“We have the power to advocate, and the power to bring light to certain areas that not a lot of people are aware of,” Rushing said.

The regular tenure of a Student Trustee is two years, so Rushing is scheduled to hold the position until 2015. He will serve alongside graduate student Tiffany Fridley on the board, who has served since early this year.

Rushing said that he hopes to take the amount of time necessary to adjust to the position, and then to bring his own unique perspective to the equation.

“I want to do what I do,” said Rushing. “Hopefully, I can set an example for future trustees.”
