Technology and Socializing are a must for the busy college student. Thanks to the internet communication and dating websites, we have the ability to connect with potential partners online in the privacy of our own homes via computer or smart-phone.
Here are my top five dating websites:
- Plenty Of Fish (POF)- This seems to be a very popular website among students, especially at Wright State. This website is perfect for those who want something more meaningful than a hook-up, or just a date. You can create a profile, upload a picture and take a personality test to see which person is compatible with your personality.
- Okcupid- This is basically the same concept as POF, though it's more easy to navigate, and the website has been around longer. Okcupid gives you chance to message other users near and far. A similar personality test can be given, but is optional for those that want to get straight to messaging and meeting people.
- Skout-Skout- This app is available for Android and Apple phones and is much easier to use and navigate than the previously mentioned sites for desktops. You upload a picture, list the basics such as age, location, height and weight and then your profile is completed. The upside: you are able to view users who are within feet of you if you want to message them. The downside: you have to pay or take surveys to see if users have viewed you.
- Grindr- This app is intended for gay and transgendered users. Experiences with this app have been both bad and good depending on how you present yourself or what you’re looking for. Grindr is basically the same concept and idea as Skout, minus the profile viewing feature. What’s good about this is that there are a lot of students from WSU using this app to meet other students or conversing. Caution is a must on any website, and when you meet someone for the first time, make sure it’s in a public setting.
- Craigslist-No explanation needed besides wanting a friend with benefits or a hook-up. Although the site created to to sell things to people, now people can post classifieds looking for “hook-ups.” I cannot stress enough how careful you should be in meeting strangers from the online world. The best way to make sure someone is real is meeting them in a public place before initiating any type of intimate encounter.
