Incoming Wright State students have a plethora of events and activities to choose from now that Fall Semester classes are in session.
The campus itself boasts many activities.
“If you’re in the Student Union,” said Junior and Childhood Education major Megan Noll, “there’s stuff in the downstairs Atrium, like the rock climbing wall and the fitness center people can try.”
Among these are the table tennis and pool center, the racquetball courts and a television hub. All of these activities are free for students.
The RCA’s Student Weekend Activities Team (SWAT ) provides regular events to those who decide to stick around on weekends. Some of the upcoming events include:
- The UAB Fall Fest on the North Lawn August 30 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
- Open Mic Night with musician Amanda Duncan at “The Bacon” the same day at 9 p.m.
- A WSU Welcome Back Icebreaker in the Apollo Room on August 31 at 7 p.m.
- Tailgate party with Live Bank Karaoke at the Woods’ basketball court on September 2 at 6 p.m.
“We love having people just come and hang out,” said operations manager Amanda Forasteros. “They never even have to buy any beverages. People can come and play games, play the Wii or meet for some sort of small group or study group.”
In addition to special events, students can join one of WSU’s 200-plus student organizations. These organizations include academic, honorary, special interest, coordinating, recreational, media, religious and Greek organizations.
Those who want to broaden their horizons beyond campus can check out the Mall at Fairfield Commons, packed with clothing stores, the interactive pet store Fetch and the new arcade spot, XD Max.
For movie-goers on a budget, consider The Greene’s $5.00 movie Wednesdays at Rave Motion Pictures and Skyborn Cruise-In’s traditional drive-in movie experience on Haddix Road, offering two films back-to-back for $8.00 on weekends.
