Those interested in Greek life at Wright State can attend several upcoming events hosted by fraternities and sororities on campus that are recruiting new members.
One of several events offered is the PNC Recruitment Orientation on September 4 from 7–9 p.m.
For female students interested in joining a sorority, Alpha Xi Delta’s Football FrenXI to benefit Autism Speaks which will be held on the Intramural Fields by Lot 4 on Saturday, September 28 from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Senior Vinícius Vargas, a member of the fraternity Sigma Phi Epsilon, said that the process to join Greek life is very simple.
“Anyone interested can contact the fraternity they’re interested in joining and they can visit the house and get to know the members and what activities they do,” said Vargas.
Vargas also said that each organization has its own policies for admitting new members.
“Each girl has an opportunity to attend each sorority and learn about the group, what it means to be a sorority woman and the activities and charities they do,” said Samantha Roman, a graduate student. She went on to say that Greek life can provide opportunities for leadership and taking part in community service.
Some organizations hope to achieve other goals by finding new members. For example, Ashley Scott, the treasurer of Zeta Phi Beta and Vice President of National Pan-Hellenic Council (PNC) Programs, said that one goal of recruitment at WSU is to incrase African-American student retention.
“We want to accomplish this by improving campus and by giving opportunities to receive scholarships,” Scott said.
