Wright State’s first road Horizon League contest of the year was rough from the get go as the Raiders fell to Wisconsin-Milwaukee 3-0 Saturday evening to drop to 1-1 in conference play.
UWM is just one of nine NCAA Division 1 teams still unbeaten this season and its strength showed against WSU.
Robbie Boyd got the Panthers on the board five minutes into the contest. Rami Younes and Laurie Bell added second-half goals to put the game away.
UWM outshot WSU 22-12 for the match. Raider goalkeeper Tyler Blackmer made seven stops in a losing effort.
Shafer top Raider at All-Ohio Championships
Senior runner Dan Shafer led all Raiders in the men’s 8K event at the All-Ohio Cross Country Championships in Cedarville.
Shafer ran the 8-kilometer course in 25 minutes and 43 seconds. Overall, he came in 16th place out of 289 runners.
As a team, Wright State finished 13th out of 41 teams from across the team in the men’s event with the average Raider time being 26 minutes and 50 seconds. Akron won the men’s event as its average time bested the Raiders by more than a full minute.
On the women’s side, Rachel Janson ran the best time for WSU running the 6K course in 24 minutes and 16 seconds. Janson came in 70th overall at the Ohio Championships.
As a team, WSU completed the women’s event in 22nd place with the average time being 25 minutes and 15 seconds. Crosstown rival Dayton took the crown as top women’s squad with a 22 minute, 58 second average.
Swimming: Raider men improve to 4-0, beat Flames
Wright State’s men’s swimming and diving team stayed perfect on season after defeating Illinois-Chicago 176-124 Saturday in Chicago.
The Raiders placed first in 400 medley relay, 1000 free, 200 free, 100 back, 100 breast, 200 back, 200 breast and 200 IM events.
The women’s team was defeated by UIC 184-111 and sits at 3-2 on the year.
