Offseason interrupted, Raider soccer revived from the dead

Wright State men’s soccer coach Bryan Davis reviewed the season with The Guardian this morning under the impression the Raiders’ season had come to a close. Less than four hours later, his team got a call saying the season is not over.

After falling in Tuesday’s quarterfinal of the Horizon League Championships at Cleveland State, the conference announced Friday afternoon that CSU had used an ineligible player to defeat WSU 2-1. The player was ineligible due to yellow card accumulation.

The Raiders took the Vikings’ spot in the tournament following CSU's disqualification.

Friday afternoon, Davis was rounding up his team for a critical match Saturday afternoon at No. 1-seed Illinois-Chicago. The winner of Saturday’s match advances to the Horizon League finals.

UIC finished the regular season with a perfect 7-0 conference record. The Raiders nearly upset the Flames last month when UIC won on a goal in double overtime to top WSU 3-2.

“Obviously, this is an unfortunate situation that has impacted many student-athletes,” said Horizon League Commissioner Jon LeCrone in a statement. “However, under the circumstances, we feel this is the best way to move forward and include as many teams as possible in our championship.”
