Students take part in first professional business pledge

The Raj Soin College of Business hosted an inaugural signing ceremony of the Professional Business Pledge Wednesday afternoon.

Dean Joanne Li kicked off the event with a warm welcome and opening address. She then passed the spotlight to the keynote speaker, Raj Soin alumnus and successful entrepreneur David Gasper.

Following these two speakers, the members of the Dean's Student Advisory Board each read one of the eight tenets of the Raj Soin College of Business Professional Code and explained what it meant to them.

Meredith Brackman recited the vow to achieve academic excellence, explained that it is a worthy struggle and encouraged her fellow students to take the necessary steps toward scholastic success. Finally, the students in attendance filed into adjacent rooms to sign the pledge and accept their rewards.

Human Resource Management Junior Rachel Chapman explained what the pledge meant to her.

"It is something more concrete to which we can all relate--the whole college," Chapman said. "It's something we can all turn back on when we have difficult situations to deal with." Dean Li reflected on the significance of the pledge.

"It's very important that our students take this pledge together to commit themselves to being business professionals. It's important not only for themselves, but for everyone," Li said. "This pledge invites businesses to work with us because it shows that we have great people--great students."
