Men’s Basketball: Donlon’s alma mater looking for head coach

Wright State head coach Billy Donlon’s alma mater of UNC-Wilmington is looking for a head coach but Donlon said Tuesday he loves where he is at Wright State.

“I am the head coach at Wright State, I love being here. Clearly like anybody, I am an alum and I played there, I want to see them be successful. I would say that whether I am the head coach there or not the head coach there,” Donlon said.

“Whether they had an opening or not, you want your alma mater to be successful. I love where I am. Dr. (Dan) Abrahamowicz, President (David) Hopkins, (Director of Athletics) Bob Grant, I love our team, I love our players. I am not going to comment on another job.”

The Wilmington Star News listed Donlon as one of eight possible candidates to replace Buzz Peterson who was fired after three years at UNCW.

Donlon signed a contract extension last year that will keep him at WSU through the 2017-18 season. The out clause on Donlon’s contract is $80,000 but decreases in $20,000 increments through the life of his contract according to records obtained through WSU Human Resources.
