Wright State men’s basketball point guard Mark Howell is scheduled to be arraigned Thursday morning in Fairborn Municipal Court after a traffic stop last Friday.
Howell, a 19-year-old freshman, was caught last Friday by Ohio State Patrol for operating a vehicle after underage consumption, according to the Fairborn Municipal Court website. The charge is given when a driver is under 21 years old and has a blood alcohol level of .02 to .08.
Howell was also ticketed for not driving within the marked lanes properly.
If found guilty, Howell could lose his drivers license for up to two years and be required to attend counseling.
While the crime is considered a fourth degree misdemeanor which carries a maximum 30-day jail sentence, it is unlikely Howell will face jail time even if found guilty, according to the guidelines of the Bureau of Motor Vehicles.
This is not the first time a WSU basketball player has been before the Fairborn Municipal Court. In the fall, forward Tavares Sledge was sentenced to 19 days in jail after a domestic incident with his girlfriend.
Howell appeared in 20 contests in 2013-14 averaging 1.2 points a game.
When asked, Athletics Department Spokesperson Bob Noss did not have any immediate information on Howell’s traffic stop.
