Sandy Moran is currently pursuing her second master’s degree; her fourth degree altogether.
Originally a native of Wisconsin, Moran studied at the University of Wisconsin where she pursued a double major in history and political science. Next, she attended Campbell University in North Carolina and graduated with a Masters of Education in exercise science.
“I wanted that first master’s degree for coaching,” Moran said. With such a diverse academic background, she said sought to advance her education further.
As a Wright State University student, Moran is working to complete the Master of Humanities program with an emphasis on religion, which she began in fall 2012. She is particularly interested in early Christianity.
“I am just starting my thesis this summer,” Moran said. “I’m focusing on the New Testament of the Bible and eschatology, the study of the end times.”
Moran said she was attracted to the flexibility of the program and elected to begin on a part time schedule. She said she finds learning ancient Greek to be the most challenging part of her studies so far.
“It seems like I spend much more time on my undergraduate language classes than I do with my graduate classes,” Moran said. “My professors really push me, which I find helpful.”
Despite the challenge of making sense of ancient Greek, Moran said the task has proved to be advantageous.
“Being able to apply the languages I’ve learned to my graduate studies has been the most rewarding for me so far,” Moran said.
Moran is set to graduate in May 2015. After receiving her degree, she hopes to go back to school, this time for a PhD in religion. As she continues her studies this summer, Moran is accompanied by her companion, Rebound.
“I don’t think people on campus would recognize me without the dog!” Moran said.
