Wright State held its 17th annual La Fiesta event Tuesday to kick off Hispanic Heritage Month.
The festival's primary goal was to share the rich Hispanic culture with the Wright State community. Music, arts and crafts and cultural quizzes of popular Latino scholars, writers and politicians were all incorporated into La Fiesta. Students won prizes for guessing the correct answers to the quizzes.
Mai Nguyen, the director of the Asian/ Hispanic/ Native American Center at WSU, hoped students were enriched and educated on the diverse Hispanic culture whilst attending the festivities.
"The Hispanic culture is very diverse and rich. Students will be enriched knowing more about the contributions made to our nation of American citizens whose ancestors came from Spain, Mexico, the Caribbean and Central and South America."
The overall goal of Tuesday's event was to provide college students with the opportunity to be exposed to the many different cultures of the world. With events like La Fiesta, Nguyen hopes to bring that opportunity to students at Wright State.
"College is where students discover new knowledge, make friends and interact with those who come from different cultures, enrich their intellectual lives and be successful in the global world."
