The Guardian has learned that Wright State men’s basketball forward JT Yoho was arrested and charged two weeks ago for driving under the influence according to Fairborn Municipal Court records.
The records showed that Yoho took a DUI Breathalyzer at 2:14 a.m. on Sept. 12 with a blood alcohol level of .198 – more than twice the legal level for the state of Ohio. The offense is considered a first-degree misdemeanor.
Wright State's spokesperson Bob Noss released a statement on behalf of the university's Athletics Department:
“JT Yoho made us aware immediately when he was arrested on an OVI charge on Sept. 12. This is a serious matter that we will continue to review. We will have no further comment at this time," the statement read.
Wright State head coach Billy Donlon would not comment beyond the statement released by the Athletics Department. No word on whether Yoho will be suspended or remain on the team.
The Fairborn Municipal Court Records also show that Yoho was ticketed for not driving within the marked lanes.
Yoho turns 21 in November. The legal drinking age in the state of Ohio is 21.
Yoho has a mandatory hearing before Judge Beth Root on Nov. 17 in Fairborn Municipal Court.
Yoho, a 6-foot-6 junior, played in 33 games last year and averaged 7.9 points per game.
Root is the same judge that sentenced Yoho’s teammate Tavares Sledge for 19 days for a domestic dispute with Sledge’s girlfriend in 2013. The sentence drew criticism from WSU Director of Athletics Bob Grant and President David Hopkins who sent a letter to Root’s office asking for a reduced sentence.
