Wright State's 2014-15 women’s basketball schedule was released today including marquee matchups with power conference schools such as Purdue, Butler and Boston College. Other key games to look forward to include the Dayton Flyers at home on Dec. 3, Northern Kentucky on Jan. 3 and the conference season opener against Green Bay Jan. 7.
Expectations are high for the team after a historic season last year. Last season, the Raiders had a 26-9 record giving them the most wins in school history, as well as their first Horizon League title and first appearance in the NCAA Tournament. Last season, they gained confidence and experience from facing such a tough non-conference schedule that carried over into conference play and the post season.
“We try to have a rigorous non-conference schedule every year to prepare the team for conference play,” said WSU coach Mike Bradbury
Bradbury is entering his fifth season as head coach of the Raiders. Since his arrival, the women’s basketball team has taken steps to raise the program to the next level Now that the team has received national exposure and a conference title, the team will not be able to surprise anyone this year. Bradbury acknowledged that the team may target on their back this season, but they will be prepared.
When asked about how the team will handle last year’s success, Bradbury responded, “There’s no question we will be ranked near if not at the top, but we will continue to work hard and play hard. “
The Raiders first exhibition game will be at home on Nov. 1 against Ashland University.
