“Some people are born great, others become great, and the rest watch cat movies, guess which one you are.”
Complete with fourth wall breaking, hilarious one-liners and everyone’s favorite internet meme, Grumpy Cat’s Worst ChristmasEver is sure to give you laughs and giggles during this holiday season.
The movie follows the inner voice of the internet-famed cat known to most as Grumpy Cat and to others as Tardar Sauce. Grumpy (as called in the film) lives in a pet store called Whiskers at the local mall. Having been returned a couple of times in exchange for a simple fish, Grumpy is a little, well, grumpy.
Chrystal, a 12 year old girl, is struggling to make friends with the girls at school, which is probably due in part to the fact that she only tries talking to the girls who are most popular in her class. A mysterious Santa character appears, giving her a ‘magical Christmas coin’ to throw into the fountain. Chrystal hesitantly obliges and wishes for a friend that she can talk to.
Later on, at the pet shop, she discovers that she now has the ability to hear Grumpy’s thoughts! The cat’s inner monologue and Chrystal’s voice establishes a conversation line and they are able to communicate with each other.
Two suspicious characters make an entrance and come across the expensive prize that will save the pet store from being closed. Will they selfishly steal the final hope of Whiskers Pet Shop or will Chrystal and Grumpy be able to save the day?
Aubrey Plaza, known for Parks & Recreation and Scott Pilgrim vs. the World, supplies the voice for Grumpy Cat. Throughout the film she makes her own quips against the film industry, the very plot of the movie and even the premise of Lifetime movies themselves.
The film currently is rated at 5.7 on IMDb and a 30% by critics on Rotten Tomatoes. Despite the low ratings, the film has garnered some hype due to a cat starring in its own film, even after the clothing line and now-published book, “Grumpy Cat: A Grumpy Book.” Audience members recommend watching the movie at least once, if not making it a part of your annual holiday film list.
The Lifetime movie originally aired on the 29th of November, but is set to be re-broadcasted twice on Sunday the 21st of December. Set your DVR to record!
