Friday morning, the Creative Arts Center was evacuated as a construction accident caused the building’s sprinkler system to flood three floors of the center’s art and music wings.
Wright State’s Physical Plant shut down the power to the building with the hopes of restoring power to the facility by midday Saturday. Meanwhile, the CAC will remain closed as crews are attempting to dry equipment and mitigate water damage, said Wright State spokesperson Seth Bauguess.
“They have a bunch of Physical Plant people and an outside agency working like bandits right now to dry everything out,” Bauguess said. “Some of that drying out meant getting into the electric circuitry and cabinets and that sort of thing.”
Even once power is turned back on to the CAC, the drying process could take days according to Bauguess.
“Folks working or having class in that building will have wet spots going into next week,” Bauguess said.
The CAC was built in 1973 and expanded in 1990 and houses the Department of Art and Art History, Theatre Arts and Music. The center has two concert halls and two theaters that are used as performance spaces.
