Nestled within the colorful art and culture that is Ohio’s Yellow Springs is a little restaurant called Sunrise Café.
Yellow Springs, just 25 minutes away from campus, receives many visits from Wright State University’s students. The city hosts a semi-annual street fair full of local art, music, clothes and more. A few minutes away from the main street stands the Glen Helen Nature Reserve funded by Antioch College.
With all the wondrous factions to Yellow Springs, it’s hard to pick which is the best. However, numerous visitors would agree that one of your best options for food lies in Sunrise Café.
Based off its location, it’s obviously a great place to grab a bite between your day’s activities.
The Sunrise Café offers vegetarian, vegan and gluten-free options for customers, but also caters to the typical American cuisine. Their philosophy is to create ‘natural food from the heart.’ They are also very insistent about not owning a deep fryer nor microwave, as all the food is made from scratch.
They are known for their Meatloaf Wednesdays and Sunrise Potatoes. But no matter the dish you choose, you are likely to find a few favorites to reorder when you return. They also provide you with homemade ketchup in small serving dishes.
Eric Jensen, student at WSU, says, “It’s good, actual food that makes you feel good. The wholesomeness and organic aspect to the food makes it well worth the price.”
The price for a dinner ranges from about $15 to $25. Although they are closed on Tuesdays, they have many dine-in hours available during the rest of the week.
Since Sunrise Café is always hopping with customers waiting to get in, it is best advised that you call ahead for seating. The waiting area is also fairly small and many others waiting to be seated may not take into account that you were in line before them. Call them at (937) 767-7211 about a half hour before your arrival time.
