The Raiders bounced back from Wednesday night’s loss to Green Bay with a conference win over the Detroit Titans at the Nutter Center on Saturday. The final score was 76-57 with Tay’ler Mingo leading all scorers with 27 points.
Going into the game, the Raiders were going up against the fifth leading scorer in the Horizon League, Rosanna Reynolds, averaging 15.5 points and three assists per game.
In the first half, Reynolds went three of five from the 3-point line with 15 points to lead the Titans to a 35-27 point lead. Mingo hit six of her nine first-half field goals keeping the Raiders alive with 16 points.
The Raiders opened up the second half on a 10-0 run and never looked back. Their defense shut down Reynolds in the second half allowing her to score only two points. Wright State outscored Detroit by 27 points in the second half by shooting 68 percent from the floor with 22 points in the paint.
“In the first half, they really took it to us as the aggressor and it showed,” WSU coach Mike Bradbury said. “In the second half, we became more aggressive attacking the basket and throwing the ball inside and that allowed the halves to be how they were.”
Mingo led all scorers in the game with 27 points, six rebounds and three assists.
“We’ve still got work to do,” Mingo said. “In the first half, we were kind of playing on our toes and in the second half we definitely stepped it up. I’d say it was one of our top performances in the second half this year.”
Breanna Stucke had another solid game for the Raiders going five of seven from the floor with 15 points in the game.
With Saturday’s win, the Raiders are an overall 12-4 on the season and 1-1 in Horizon League Conference play. They will travel to Milwaukee and Valparaiso next week for two more conference games. The next home game for the Raiders will be versus Cleveland State on Saturday, Jan. 24 at 2 p.m.
