Looking for a creative avenue for your spring cake decorating? One very cool idea could be the use of Twizzlers™ candy, as well as other twisted-licorice candy, and turn them into flower art.
Required:
Licorice candy twists (various colors)
Sharp kitchen knife
Wax paper (optional)
Something to put them on (optional)
The process is very simple: start with an array of licorice candy twists in various colors. Those that you wish to be a part of the flower (namely any color than is not green) can be lined up with the ends equal. Then take your sharp cutting knife and slice the candy twists like your would a carrot or cucumber. The pieces should look like little gears.
You can make your pieces as thick or as thin as you would like, but it is a good rule of thumb to stay under a centimeter. Put your colorful flower pieces aside as you pull out the green ones and cut along the length of the candy. From here, it is up to your discretion on how skinny, angular or thick you allow your stems to be. An additional idea is to slice up smaller pieces to use as leaves.
Now that you have all of your flower parts, you can start assembling them. It is recommended that you organize the flowers in the shape that you desire on wax paper. You can use these flower-style candies on plates for your guests, press them into a plainly-iced cake or decorate any number of sweets like cupcakes and cookies.
