Hill College head coach Swede Trenkle confirmed to The Guardian Friday night that second-year players Marcus Johnson Jr. and Tyrell Bellot-Green have been given scholarship offers for the 2015-16 season by Wright State head coach Billy Donlon.
If the two accept Donlon's offer, they will have two years or eligibility remaining starting next season.
Hill College is ranked No. 3 in the NJCAA National Division I Poll.
Donlon has used the Texas junior college route in the past. Three seasons ago, Jerran Young and Miles Dixon became regular contributors to the Raiders lineup in their back-to-back runs to the Horizon League title game. This season, Michael Karena join WSU after two years with South Plains Community College.
As of now, 11 of 13 scholarships have been claimed for next season assuming no one leaves the program during the offseason. In addition to nine scholarship players returning next season, WSU will add Ball State transfer Mark Alstork and Youngstown Ursuline guard Mark Hughes to the lineup next year.
Johnson is a 6-foot-1 guard from Charlotte, NC. He started in 32 of Hill College's 33 games last season, averaging 14.5 points per game. Ballot-Green is a 6-foot-7 forward from Mississuaga, Ontario. He averaged 11.6 points per game alone with 6.4 rebounds per game.
This season, Johnson has led his team in scoring averaging 16.9 points a game and Bellot-Green has averaged 15.2 points per game.
