Wright State University students can help to spread warmth by participating in the Project Linus blanket-making marathon held on Friday, March 27 in the Student Union Atrium from 1 p.m.- 7 p.m.
The National Residence Hall Honorary is searching for volunteers to help make fleece-tie blankets for the marathon. There are no sewing skills required to make the blankets and all materials will be provided. Students interested in volunteering only need to attend the event.
Monetary donations are also being accepted and will go toward the purchase of materials needed for blankets, which can cost between ten and eighteen dollars depending on the cost of the fleece, according to a letter from the event organizer, McKenna Koewler. People interested in donating can visit wright.edu/give/projectlinus.
All blankets created during the marathon will be given to the Dayton chapter of Project Linus, a non-profit organization committed to soothing children through donating handmade blankets. Koewler said in an email that Project Linus gives blankets to the Dayton Jewish Federation Center, Bernina Main Street, Fairmont Presbyterian Church, Hancock Fabric and Linda’s Sew n So.
Over the past five years, volunteers for the blanket making marathon have made and donated 5,200 blankets, according to Koewler’s letter.
