GREEN BAY, Wis – Despite leading by as many as 12 and forcing overtime, Wright State could not overcome No. 1 seed Green Bay as the Phoenix took WSU’s crown as Horizon League champs by winning 86-77 Sunday.
Wright State guard Tay’ler Mingo hit a shot off the glass with 27 seconds left in regulation to the game and force overtime. Mingo, the Horizon League’s regular season Player of the Year, led the Raiders with 26 points in a losing effort.
Breanna Stucke scored 18 for WSU.
Tesha Buck, who scored 24 points, led the Phoenix.
Wright State ended Green Bay’s three-year run as Horizon League champs last year with a win in Green Bay in the title game. The Phoenix exacted its revenge by outrebounding the Raiders 50-33.
Green Bay earned the Horizon League's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The Raiders are likely participating in the NIT.
WSU trailed 49-41 in the second half with 13:13 remaining. WSU chipped away at Green Bay’s lead, tying the Phoenix after the Raiders went on a 10-2 run.
Wright State led at halftime 35-34. WSU never led after that in the second half.
The Raiders led by as many as 12 in the first half as WSU went on a 15-2 run to lead 27-15 with 8:58 left. Green Bay countered with a 15-0 run. Mingo ended the bleeding with a 3-pointer with 2:46 left in the half to tie the game at 30.
Wright State took its final lead of the game with four seconds left in the first half when Richelle van der Keijl made a layup to put the Raiders up one.
In overtime, Wright State never led as the Raiders missed their final five shots from the field.
