The Office of Disability Services will be hosting their first annual Disability Services Arts Gala with art from WSU’s own students on display.
Joe Bonvillian, the Director of Disability Affairs for Student Government, came up with the idea during the Fall Semester although Bonvillian recently stepped down from his position, shortly after the winter intercession.
Most of the planning has been done during the spring semester by Brandon DeFoe, College of Liberal Arts senator; Kyle Powell, president of Student Government (SG); Emily Bingham, director of Campus Culture for SG; and Dan Darkow, the new director of Disability Affairs for SG.
The hope is to make this event an annual one after this year.
“We are expecting three studios to bring a combined estimate of 50 pieces to the event,” DeFoe said, “The studios participating this year are: Creative Foundations, Spire Arts, and We Care Arts.”
Initially there was a plan to establish an admission fee to support the Disability Services Arts Program Fund, but instead there will be a silent auction held with all of the proceeds supporting the fund. Attendees are also able to make a donation online at http://www.wright.edu/give/odsarts or in person tonight at the event.
“Three WSU students will be participating in the event. Those students are: Yelena Lippke, Shirlisa Scott, and Summer Reinke,” DeFoe said.
The event is on Thursday, April 9 from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. in 156 Student Union (Endeavor Room). Light refreshments will be available to attendees during the course of the evening.
