Social stigma: ‘Why Do We Love to Hate the French?’

Since the first of the Modern Languages Lecture Series in 2012, there have been six presentations on diverse lecture topics.

This lecture addresses the current stereotypes of France and French culture as well as their origins. Dr. Pascale Abadie was inspired to present the seventh installment ‘Why Do We Love to Hate the French?’ due to the French’s world affairs decisions following the 9/11 attacks.

In a document provided by Kayla Schaub, an administrative specialist for the Department of Modern Languages, “We love being able to provide scholarly presentations for our students and colleagues to further their knowledge in the disciplines of culture and language.”

Abadie, a native Parisian, is hoping to help change the perspective of students and staff at Wright State University who may have misconceptions about French culture. She will approach the subject with a closer perspective as to why exactly people hate the French.

The lecture began at 5 p.m. in the Millet Hall Atrium today, Thursday, April 02, 2015 and is going on now.
