Women's Soccer Bounce Back against Belmont

After losing to Ball State on Friday the Raiders bounced back against Belmont in their home opener on Sunday, Aug. 30.  The Raiders posted their first shutout of the season in their 2-0 victory to improve their record to 2-2 on the season.

8:38 into the game senior Mackenzie Hamilton scored her first goal of the year off of a pass by sophomore Bryce Hueber to put WSU up 1-0.

“I thought we started out well and played with a lot of confidence,” said 11 year head coach Pat Ferguson.  “We were dangerous on the attack and they didn’t do too much against us in the first half.”

In the second half at 58:35, sophomore Madison McKinney extended the Raider lead to 2-0 with a goal off of a corner kick by sophomore Sarah Colvin for the second and last goal of the game.

“We have some very good young players and they’re getting better each game,” said Ferguson.

The Raiders led the shot count 17-9 and had 11 shots on goal compared to three by Belmont.

“We are not where we are going to be,” said Ferguson. “But I think we’re in a good place.”

The Raiders will be back in action on Friday, Sept. 4 as they host Miami (OH) at WSU’s Alumni Field.  The match will begin at 7 p.m.
