The Raiders (3-5-1) lost to Milwaukee 1-0 at Alumni Field on Saturday, Sept. 26 in a Horizon League conference match up.
“They have to take responsibility for this loss,” head coach Pat Ferguson said. “We should have never lost to this team. Their first 45 minutes was absolutely awful. It was embarrassing how we came out with no energy.”
The Raiders outshot Milwaukee 11-7 but could not capitalize on their opportunities.
The lone goal in the game was scored by Milwaukee’s Anna Smalley off of a header from a free kick at the 17:50 mark.
“We came out with no energy,” Ferguson said. “I don’t know why. We had a good week of training. We prepared them well and I think the scouting report was good. We’re a team that's predicated on energy and athleticism, and for the first 45 minutes we just didn’t have that.”
Senior goalkeeper for WSU Halle Pyle grabbed four saves in the match for a total of 36 on the season with a .857 save percentage.
WSU is now 0-1-1 in Horizon League play and will be back in action on Saturday, Oct. 3 for another conference matchup at UIC.
“Every conference game is huge,” Ferguson said. “We have seven more games. We just have to learn from this one.”
