For the second straight game, Wright State’s men’s soccer team failed to find the back of the net but this time, neither did their opponent.
The Raiders ended their match with Green Bay Saturday evening in a tie at 0-0, playing in their third overtime match in as many games.
“It’s disappointing because we’ve got a team that’s so close to taking another step,” coach Bryan Davis said. “No body is going to give you that step—it’s the hardest one.”
In the second overtime period, the Raiders (6-2-1) nearly suffered another nearly identical heartbreaker, when a Green Bay shot looked like it would float past Tyler Blackmer’s hands and into the net. This time, Blackmer saved the day.
Tyler’s a great goal keeper, I knew he was going to save it,” Davis said.
While coach Davis may have known all along, it wasn’t hard to see the resemblance in the situation, just four days later.
“It’s very hard to score form 70 yards—the kid hit a great ball—but I had no worries about that.”
The Raiders will have time to rest after playing their third straight overtime game, when they travel to Chicago to face the University of Illinois at Chicago.
