Ticket sites crash after "Star Wars" trailer released

The trailer for “Star Wars: The Fore Awakens” was released on television during ESPN’s “Monday Night Football” on Oct. 19 and the audience response resulted in the crashing of multiple ticket sites that were pre-selling tickets of the film.

Most websites began selling tickets after the trailer aired during the game, however some sites like Fandango sold tickets earlier in the day.

On Monday morning, some fans looking to purchase tickets online through Fandango reported delays as long as half an hour, according to CBS Los Angeles.

Ticket sales for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” have already broken records, ousting “The Hunger Games” for highest first day ticket sales, outselling the film eight times over.

Maxwell Beach, sophomore Computer Science major thought that the new trailer provided a solid vision of what the setting and characters will be like without ruining the plot.

“I thought it was pretty interesting,” Beach said. “They didn’t reveal too much about the story so you still want to go see it and see what’s going on, but they did reveal a good amount about where you’re going to be and more about the characters.”

Jacob Mueller, sophomore marketing major is excited for the film, especially the new droid.

“I’m still pretty hyped for it, but when Han Solo was like ‘Jedi are real,’ shouldn’t they have years of data that prove that Jedi existed?” Mueller said. “My favorite thing about it was Ball2-D2, I was like, ‘Woah, what is that? Look at him go, rolling on the sand. I don’t know where you’re going, but I want to watch you go.’ The droids make these movies.”

Senior TESOL major Leah Kelley experienced intense nostalgia when she viewed the trailer.

“When I watched the new trailer, I got goose bumps,” Kelley said. “I grew up with Star Wars, so this is emotional for me. I had to watch the trailer two times, because I had tears in my eyes. I couldn’t see the screen.”
