Members of the Wright State community met on campus to speak out against social issues in the country.
Students stood atop the tables and chairs of the Student Union Market during the lunch rush to read aloud emails from university professors. The emails were responses on the University of Missouri-Columbia protests.
The demonstration moved around the Student Union and on throughout the campus. One sign read: “If you don’t give us space, we will take it.”
Vice President for Multicultural Affairs & Community Engagement, Kimberly Barrett, emailed the campus to announce the demonstration:
“As many of you might be aware, students at the University of Missouri-Columbia have been engaged in protests regarding systemic institutionalized racism. They have called for black collegians and allies around the country to engage in a nationwide demonstration in solidarity with their cause. A number of Wright State University students will be taking up this call to action at noon today on campus.”
Before the protest started, others news sources such as Channel 7 and ABC 22/Fox 45 were in attendance which could suggest that this was planned ahead of time.
