Demmings and Van der Keilj post double-doubles

A 16-4 run over the last 3:28 propelled Wright State’s women’s basketball team to a 73-68 win again Kent State on Tuesday, Nov. 17 their first of the season.

Kent State started off hot from the field, jumping out to a 7-0 lead in the opening minutes.  A layup by junior center Riche van der Keijl was the start of the Raiders 10-2 run that culminated with a three by senior guard Symone Denham—her second triple in a two-minute span.

A tight contest after that, neither team could really pull away until the Golden Flashes used a 6-0 run to give them a 64-57 advantage with just 5:10 remaining in the game.

A three-point play by senior guard Kim Demmings at 3:28 sparked another run for the Raiders, this time for all the marbles. Another three by Demmings at 2:32 put the Raiders in front for good, as Wright State finished a 12-0 run on a layup by Denham with just 50 seconds left.

Demmings led all scorers with 26 points and tied a career-high in rebounds with 14. Riche van der Keijl posted her second-straight double-double with an 11-point, 15-rebound effort.

Demmings is now 25 points away from the all-time points lead at Wright State.

Wright State hosts Lipscomb Thursday, Nov. 19 at 7 p.m. for their home opener.
