Junior forward Antania Hayes exploded for a career-best 29-point, 12-rebound performance and paced the Wright State women’s basketball team to a 75-61 win over the Houston Cougars in the Lone State Showcase on Friday, Nov. 27.
The Raiders opened the first quarter scoring the first six points and led 12-4 before Houston closed the quarter on a 7-2 run.
After leading just 29-28 at halftime, Wright State opened up the second half by outscoring Houston 13-2, but Houston came charging back with a 15-2 run to take their first lead—a 45-44 advantage with 2:48 remaining.
It was short-lived as a layup from Hayes, followed by a three from freshman guard Emily Vogelpohl gave the Raiders a lead they would not give up again.
Wright State shot 43 percent from the field while hitting 15 of 22 foul shots. The Raiders also shot poorly from deep, making just four of 19 attempts from three-point range.
Hayes’ 29 points led all scorers, followed by 14 from senior guard Kim Demmings and 11 apiece from Vogelpohl and senior center Riche van der Keijl.
Wright State (5-2) concludes tournament play on Saturday against No. 24 ranked George Washington at 2:30 EST.
