Issue three, the marijuana legalization amendment for the Ohio constitution, was defeated at the polls yesterday, but will we see it on the ballot again?
Issue three’s defeat was partially due to concern over marijuana monopolies that would have been legally created.
The Associated Press said that a more “conventional” marijuana plan could be proposed again in 2016, that wouldn’t endow exclusive rights to monopolies.
According to The Columbus Dispatch, ResponsibleOhio has not given up the fight for legalization just yet and will begin planning “immediately.”
“Life and legalization are a journey,” ResponsibleOhio executive director Ian James said to the Dispatch. “We have taken the initial steps here to bring legalization here to Ohio. We have always said we will listen to the voters. We trust the voters. The voters said clearly they did not like this plan. While we’re disappointed, we will start a new conversation tomorrow.”
The Gallup poll on legal marijuana use reports that 58% of the national population supports marijuana use.
Graduate student in counselling, Cody McCowan is sure that we will see marijuana legalized in Ohio within this decade.
“I think it’s inevitable,” McCowan said. “It’s only a matter of time before enough people are satisfied to pass any measure on it.”
