Raidersgiving: No raider eats alone

As the short week of classes at Wright State draws to a close, people from the area are preparing for a time of friends and family for the holiday season.

For those without plans on Thanksgiving this coming Thursday, there are events set in place suited for individuals and families.

“Raidersgiving began in 2012 when Wright State switched from quarters to semesters and students would be staying on campus during the holiday,” Wright State administrator Craig This said. “The first Raidersgiving had 12 students in attendance. Last year, we had 308 students attend the event."

Although the event runs from noon until 2 p.m., attendees of Raidersgiving can start arriving as early as 11:30 a.m. to play games and participate in the Cards 4 Kids program which will be making cards for children at Children’s Medical Center.

“There might be a slight line, but we have not had problems in the past,” This said. “It moves fairly quickly.”

Although the event is geared towards Wright State students, faculty and alumni, with their motto “No Raider Eats Alone” everyone is welcome and no one will be turned away.

The meal will consist of traditional Thanksgiving fixings, such as:

Turkey

Mashed Potatoes/Gravy

Greene Beans

Mac ‘n Cheese

Salad/Dressing

Rolls

Dessert

Raidersgiving will also be providing Halal chicken and Jeet India catering.

Door prizes will be raffled off every 15 minutes (need not be present to win). The meal will be held in the McLin Gym (enter at Gate 9).  A free shuttle service will be running from the front of the Student Union to the Nutter Center during the event.

University President Dr. David Hopkins wished the campus a safe holiday in a brief message this afternoon. “I would like to wish our Wright State University family a Happy Thanksgiving,” Hopkins said. “Angelia and I have much to be thankful for, and our friends here at Wright State University are at the top of our list.”

The Dayton area is also hosting a free Thanksgiving meal for those without plans for the holiday. Find more information about Thanksgiving in Dayton: A Feast of Giving here.
