Raiders women defeat Mount St. Joseph by 91

Wright State's women's basketball team jumped out to a 12-5 lead and never looked back, as a 34-point first quarter pushed Wright State to a 117-26 win against Mount St. Joseph Tuesday evening.

“We played the right way and we did what we talked about,” head coach Mike Bradbury said.

Scoring 117 points, you’re bound to break some records and that’s exactly what happened as the Raiders shattered their previous record for margin of victory (63) with 91.

They just missed out on the single-game record for most points scored with 118, but with the game well in hand, the Raiders dribbled out the clock in the final moments.

Wright State had six players in double figures with freshman guard Symone Simmons leading all scorers with 18. Senior guard Kim Demmings scored 15 points in limited action and junior forward Lexi Smith posted her second career double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Bradbury gave MSJ all the credit they deserved for the program that they are, but was matter-of-fact in his response for a game with this outcome.

“We’re supposed to be (more talented).” Bradbury said. “It is what it is.”

The Raiders made 47 shots on 89 attempts, breaking another record (46 made field goals) that stood since 1981.  The opponent? Mount St. Joseph.

Every player that played for WSU scored two or more field goals and gave Wright State a perfect opportunity to rest they’re main rotation.

“We’ve played a brutal schedule.” Bradbury said. “We haven’t had a chance to play a lot of kids a lot of minutes because every game we’ve played has been against a top-level team.”

Wright State’s (10-2) reprieve will be short-lived as they face Georgia (9-1) Sunday, Dec. 20 at 2 p.m. at the Nutter Center.
