The Rey Rey Café, the student run coffee shop located in Rike Hall, held its grand opening celebration on Wednesday, Dec. 2 at 2 p.m.
The café, sponsored by Reynolds and Reynolds, opened early fall semester 2015 and is holding the grand opening mostly as a celebration, according to Event and Marketing Coordinator, Brooke Johnson-Leppla.
“We didn’t want to advertise it so much as a grand opening, because we knew it has been open all semester,” Johnson-Leppla said. “I would say that this is more of a ceremony for everyone who is involved. There were so many different moving pieces from Reynolds and Reynolds, to the administration at our own college, so this is a formal thank you them.”
Soon, control of the Rey Rey Café will be handed over to the student managerial board, which will also bring about more changes, like hosting events at the café and whatever else might be left up to the students’ creativity.
“I’m sure, since this is our first semester operating, we’ve learned a lot,” Johnson-Leppla said. “I think with the student run management board there’s going to be more marketing. There’s going to be a lot more things that we would like to see happen, but nothing that is finalized. This semester we were working with our students on making sure they put out good quality, making sure our students are trained. Now, I think we will be looking at fun things we could use the café for.”
According to Johnson-Leppla, the student managerial board will be chosen in the spring semester.
