The Wright State basketball program is now looking to fill not one, but two head coaching vacancies.
It was announced Wednesday, Mar. 30 that former Raider head coach Mike Bradbury has taken a job with the same position at the University of New Mexico according to the UNM Daily Lobo, a student run publication at the university.
Bradbury was the head coach at WSU for six years with a record of 128-73 and reached the post-season in five of those six years, with two WBI appearances, two NIT appearances and one NCAA tournament appearance.
“First I want to thank Mike for all his hard work the last six years and I want to thank his wife Christy and their kids Alex and Sena for being part of the Raider family,” Wright State Athletic Director Bob Grant said. “They will be missed, but I'm very happy for them and the opportunity at New Mexico.”
UNM hired Bradbury to replace former women’s basketball coach Yvonne Sanchez who was fired earlier this month amid some controversy according to KRQE 13 in Albuquerque.
Wright State has some of it’s own hiring to do as the search is on for coaches for both basketball programs. The interview process has already begun for the men’s position and the women’s position doesn’t seem to be too far behind.
“This move once again validates, I think how we do business, how we hire and how our culture and environment are conducive to being successful,” Grant said. “In the last several years, we have lost these folks to really good opportunities: Chris Grant to Conference USA, now with Pac 12, Rob Cooper to Penn State, Brad Brownell to Clemson, Mike Larrabee to Arkansas, Brittney Whiteside to Missouri, now at App State, Rod Perry the new AD at IUPUI, and now Mike Bradbury to New Mexico,”
“I'm pretty proud of that Wright State "tree" and how it is growing nationally in college athletics,” Grant said
